At the invitation of the Defense Attaché’s Office, Angolan scholarship students undergoing training at the U.S. Department of War’s Defense Language Institute visited the Embassy of Angola in Washington, D.C., as part of a study visit.
At the invitation of the Defense Attaché’s Office of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in the United States of America, Angolan scholarship students attending the Defense Language Institute, located at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, visited the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, as part of a study visit to the U.S. capital.
The scholarship students, affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense, Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland and the Angolan Armed Forces, paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Agostinho Van-Dúnem, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Angola to the United States of America.
On the occasion, the Ambassador provided a brief overview of the functioning and jurisdiction of the Diplomatic Mission, as well as its role in monitoring Angola’s relations with important international institutions based in the United States.
Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem also highlighted the importance of ethical values, patriotism, and responsibility, which should guide Angolan citizens, particularly when representing the country abroad.
Regarding bilateral relations, the Head of Mission highlighted the deepening of cooperation between Angola and the United States across several sectors, with particular emphasis on defense, strengthened by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation between the Republic of Angola and the United States of America.
The visit also included a presentation on the role and responsibilities of the Defense Attaché’s Office, delivered by Brigadier Custódio Livulo, who emphasised the importance of proficiency in the working language and technical military terminology in the training and professional development of Angolan military personnel in the United States.
The meeting concluded with a moment of fellowship and interaction among the participants, contributing to strengthening camaraderie and ties among Angolans undergoing training in the United States.
Defense cooperation gained renewed momentum in 2026 with the strengthening of the partnership between Angola and the State of Ohio under the State Partnership Program (SPP), formalised through the signing of Letters of Intent between Angolan and U.S. officials in Columbus and Luanda.
