The Republic of Angola participated on Wednesday, February 4, in the first Critical Minerals Ministerial Meeting, held in Washington, D.C., at the initiative of the United States Government.
The event was opened by His Excellency J. D. Vance, Vice President of the United States of America, who highlighted the strategic importance of critical minerals for economic security, the energy transition, and global industrial competitiveness.
The Ministerial Meeting brought together government representatives from several countries and international organisations with the aim of promoting international cooperation in the field of critical minerals and strengthening global supply chains in a secure, transparent, and sustainable manner.
During the meeting, the United States proposed the establishment of a Framework Agreement on Critical Minerals, aimed at defining common principles for responsible investment, technological cooperation, and supply chain resilience.
Angola’s participation forms part of the ongoing efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation with the United States, particularly within the framework of the IGEO–USG Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific Cooperation in Earth Sciences.
Angola was represented by its Ambassador to the United States of America, Agostinho Van-Dúnem, who described the Ministerial Meeting as an important milestone in consolidating international strategic dialogue on critical minerals and strengthening Angola’s economic diplomacy.
