His Excellency Agostinho Van-Dúnem, Ambassador of the Republic of Angola to the United States of America, received Angolan national Sheila Silvestre at the Embassy on August 20, 2026. She was recently appointed Chevron’s Director for Africa of International Government Affairs.

Sheila Silvestre succeeds Ani Orugboh, a Nigerian national who was also present at the meeting. With 17 years of experience at Chevron, the newly appointed Director will serve a four-year assignment in the United States, overseeing the company’s interests in Angola, Nigeria, Namibia, Ghana, Guinea-Bissau, and Equatorial Guinea.
During the meeting, Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem welcomed the appointment of an Angolan national to the position, highlighting the strong partnership between Chevron and the Government of Angola, as well as the company’s institutional relationship with the Angolan Diplomatic Mission in Washington, D.C.
The Head of Mission noted that the appointment reflects Angola’s growing importance in economic relations with the United States and highlighted the increase in U.S. investment in the country, including financing provided by the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) for the Lobito Corridor.
The meeting took place two days after Chevron announced, on August 18, the discovery of oil and gas condensate in an exploration well offshore Angola.
