Embassy of Angola in the U.S. Promotes Cultural Diplomacy Through “Kizomba de Raiz”

The event took place at the premises of the Angolan Diplomatic Mission and brought together more than 100 participants from diverse social backgrounds and nationalities, including diplomats, members of the Angolan community residing in Washington, D.C., private-sector representatives, institutional partners, academics, and U.S. citizens. In his opening remarks, Ambassador Agostinho Van-Dúnem highlighted the growing importance of cultural diplomacy as a means of bringing people closer together, emphasising the role of Angolan music and dance in promoting African cultural values, particularly in the United States and the wider region. The programme included an introductory Kizomba class led by an instructor, giving participants the opportunity to learn the basic steps of this distinctly Angolan dance. The event was further enriched by a tasting of traditional Angolan delicacies, contributing to an even more authentic and memorable cultural experience for all participants.
