President João Lourenço Receives LeBron James and Will Smith in Luanda

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, received American basketball star LeBron James and actor, producer and musician Will Smith in Luanda on Sunday. The two are in Angola to attend the debut of Luanda in the UIM E1 World Championship. During the meeting, held late in the morning, the Head of State discussed with the two American personalities issues related to promoting Angola in the tourism, film and basketball sectors, among other areas of interest. LeBron James and Will Smith are in Luanda to attend the event marking the Angolan capital’s debut on the UIM E1 World Championship calendar, an international electric boat competition that brings together some of the leading figures in global sport and entertainment. During the audience, President João Lourenço highlighted Angola’s tradition and achievements in African basketball, recalling that the country has won the African championship title 12 times. As a symbolic gesture, LeBron James and Will Smith were presented with jerseys of the National Basketball Team. The presence of the two international stars in Angola helps strengthen the country’s profile as a destination for major international events and promote its potential in tourism, sport, culture and entertainment.
