The National Flag
The National Flag is formed of two horizontal bands: red above, for the blood shed in the struggle for independence, and black below, for the African continent.
At the centre is a yellow emblem of a cogwheel, a machete and a star, standing for the workers and industrial production, the peasantry and agricultural production, and international solidarity and progress.
The National Insignia
The Insignia of the Republic brings together a crossed machete and hoe, the star, an open book and a rising sun, flanked by half a cogwheel and by sprigs of coffee and cotton. At the base, a gold band bears the name of the country: República de Angola.
The National Anthem
«Angola Avante» is the National Anthem of the Republic of Angola, adopted at independence in 1975. The words are by Manuel Rui Alves Monteiro and the music by Rui Alberto Vieira Dias Mingas.
