Angolan society is markedly young and brings together a plurality of peoples and languages. Alongside Portuguese, the official language and the language of national communication, are languages such as Umbundu, Kimbundu, Kikongo, Cokwe and Oshiwambo, spoken across the different regions of the country.

A distinguished literary tradition, with authors such as Agostinho Neto, Pepetela, winner of the Camões Prize, and José Eduardo Agualusa.
Arts and crafts
Wood carving, notably O Pensador and the Mwana Pwo mask, and samakaka textiles.
Heritage
Mbanza Kongo, the former capital of the Kingdom of Kongo, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2017.
